Sharjah Heritage Area Photowalk
Workshop for Children and Families
Date: Saturday, 4 December 2021
Timings: 11:00 am–1:00 pm
Ages: All Ages
Languages: English and Arabic
Drawing upon personal and collective memory, Hrair Sarkissian’s artworks navigate stories that official records and sources cannot tell. Inspired by the artist’s approach, participants will go on a walk in Sharjah’s Heritage Area, a restored neighbourhood where a number of traditional Emirati houses have been preserved and turned into museums. Throughout the photowalk, they will be encouraged to interact with the local residents and shopkeepers in Souk Al Arsa to find stories they can use to create a narrative for their photographs.
Final Flight
Workshop for Children and Families
Date: Saturday, 25 December 2021
Timings: 11:00 am–1:00 pm
Ages: 11–15
Languages: English and Arabic
In this workshop, the focus will be on a single artwork. Final Flight consists of seven resin/bone casts of the Northern Bald Ibis skull, archival inkjet prints, a hand-milled relief on aluminum of the birds’ migration, and a film capturing the route in bird’s eye view. Participants will visit the exhibition to see the artwork, develop an understanding of how to select one object as their study and use mixed mediums to present their ideas.
